Canossian Daughters of Charity

October 5, 2024

The Canossian Sisters’ launch their Philanthropic Development Office (PDO) with success on October 5, 2024, at Pope Pius Catholic Center. The event brought together a diverse group of supporters, Canossian Sisters, and philanthropists, all united in their commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of the poor and vulnerable persons—the “beloved” of our Foundress St. Magdalene of Canossa.

The first part of the launching program featured a series of inspiring speeches from key figures, including Sr. Estrella Vazquez, FdCC, Provincial Superior, who emphasized gratitude to God for the 70th year of the presence of the Canossian Sisters here in the Philippines and the generous collaboration of many big-hearted persons in our ministries of charity. “We thank Dr. Glenda Miro Antonio for having re-introduced to us the Spring Rain Global philanthropy and for helping us embark on this venture and major partnership, the birth of the Canossian Philanthropic Development Office” Sr. Elma Escalante, FdCC stated. “Thank you for your collaboration in our mission to uplift and empower the poor.”

Attendees were inspired by the testimonials of our mission partners, which showcased the transformative impact of our programs, particularly healthcare services, education and scholarship, and care for the elderly.

The event was highlighted with a touching ceremonial rite led by the Spring Rain Global (SRG) founder, president, and CEO, Dr. Glenda Miro Antonio. There was a symbolic passing on of St. Magdalene’s unwavering faith and profound compassion for the marginalized and impoverished that the Canossian Sisters have done through the years and will continue to do in the years to come. Sr. Estrella Vasquez, FdCC lighted the paschal candle which symbolized hope and commitment.

“We are here to continue the work of St. Magdalene… the seed that we have in us, has a meaning, it has a calling. I should say, handpick invitation by the Holy Spirit that the Lord has guided the Sisters to bring you in. Spread the news, especially to those who do not know how to help” Dr. Glenda Miro Antonio shared.

Guests learned how they can contribute to the mission. They had the opportunity to engage with the SRG Ecosystem President, Fr. Orven Gonzaga, CP who shared how they sustained their mission through SRG PDO even during the pandemic. In response to the invitation to be part of the Canossian Sisters’ mission, the guests expressed their commitment through the signed pledges they put at the basket at the foot of the lighted paschal candle. The basket of pledges was offered and blessed during the anticipated Sunday Mass celebrated by Fr.Jomar Burgos at the St. Maria Goretti Parish Church.

After the post-communion prayer, Sr. Luzviminda Mojica gave a thanksgiving message to the mission supporters, benefactors, and friends gathered in the launching program. “Thank you for standing with us and for believing in the transformative power of this project. This is not just a mission. It is a mission possible because you are with us”, she stated. After the Mass, everyone returned to the hall for the dinner and fellowship where they continued sharing the joy of each other’s presence. Some members of the SRG Ecosystem of Goods gave encouraging words to inspire the Canossian Sisters as they start up their PDO.

As part of the launch, the PDO unveiled its theme: “Mission Possible!” This call to action invites individuals and organizations to join in the mission of Making Jesus Known and Loved highlighting the importance of nurturing growth, fostering sustainability, and ensuring that our mission leaves a lasting impact on the world.

The PDO aims to sustain the mission of the Canossian Sisters by providing essential support and resources to those in need. With a vision of “Making Jesus Known and Loved,” the PDO will focus on addressing healthcare, caring for the elderly Sisters, promoting education, youth development, orphanage, vocation promotion and formation, and supporting infrastructure and community development initiatives. The PDO is built on the foundation of the SRG’s 7 Pillars Capacitation Model, which emphasizes leadership, program development, and effective resource management. This model will enable the PDO to reach a wider range of donors and implement creative strategies for sustainable impact.

The Canossian Sisters express their deepest gratitude to all who attended the launch and to those who have supported the PDO’s mission. With the collective efforts of dedicated individuals and organizations, the PDO is poised to make a significant difference in the lives of those it serves.
